[Issue] Text highlight color blends with the background color

On v.7.2.9, when I try to highlight text, the highlight color blends with the background color. That is, if yellow is chosen as the highlight color, it is rendered as yellow on a white background but green on a blue background. This is not intuitive and may impede some workflows (e.g. where one relies on highlight colors to find places that need attention).
